ONE SAFARI · DISCOVER KENYA
Enter through the country, choose a region, then continue to the city, reserve, mountain, lake, island, beach, stay or experience that is right for you.
COUNTRY SCALE · VERIFIED CONTEXT
Kenya lies in East Africa, crossed by the Equator and opening to the Indian Ocean. Its total area is 580,367 km². It is about 2.4 times the size of the United Kingdom, 1.6 times Germany, 1.9 times Italy and slightly larger than metropolitan France. France as a whole, including its overseas territories, is larger, so that comparison refers specifically to metropolitan France.
The 2019 national census counted 47,564,296 people. Kenya's national statistics office projects 54,227,015 residents at mid 2026. Nairobi is the capital and principal air hub; Mombasa is the historic Indian Ocean gateway. Across 47 counties, Kenya moves from coral coast and Swahili towns to savanna, rainforest, lakes, deserts, the Great Rift Valley and the alpine world of Mount Kenya.
This scale is the reason to explore Kenya in layers. Start with the country, enter a region, then choose a city, reserve, mountain, lake, island, beach, stay or experience. The Mombasa and Kenya Coast guide remains intact as the first fully detailed coastal chapter inside this wider Kenya home.
